A TENDER FAREWELL

Oil on canvas 50x70

In this deeply moving painting, the bust of a horse takes center stage, its head turned ever so slightly to the right as it meets your gaze with soulful intensity. Rendered in rich brown tones and adorned with a dark, flowing mane, the image tells a poignant tale of devotion and loss—a story of a faithful mare and her beloved owner.

Every morning, the mare would bring him a humble loaf of bread, a daily ritual of love and care, until the day he was called away to war. During his long absence, she waited each day at the doorstep, her eyes filled with hope for his return. Then, after two arduous years, he finally came back. In a burst of joy, the mare rushed to him, eagerly entering through the doorway to claim the piece of bread that symbolized their bond. In that fleeting, bittersweet moment of reunion, as she hurriedly turned to leave, she struck her head against the edge of a wall and, tragically, lost her life.

The background powerfully contrasts two worlds: on one side, a sky awash in warm turquoise and orange hues that evoke a tender sunrise of hope, and on the other, a stark, unyielding piece of wall that hints at the harshness of fate. This scene captures the delicate, heart-wrenching instant before death—a final, eternal reunion with the one you love, where hope and sorrow intertwine in a testament to undying loyalty.
